Rob Linn, Founder and CEO

Rob Linn has been advising senior executives since 1985.  Since that time he has worked with over 300 executive teams to help them solve their most difficult business problems.  He has worked effectively from the top levels of corporate governance and management to the fundamental levels of day-to-day operating teams. 

Rob is the CEO of InsideOut Solutions, Inc. headquartered in San Clemente, California.  The firm works with senior executives to help them solve their most difficult problems of leadership, strategy and operations.  Rob founded InsideOut Solutions in 2000 and is responsible for all aspects of its operations including working directly with clients.

Prior to founding InsideOut Solutions, Rob was a Principal with Mercer Consulting Group for 15 years.  Mercer is a global management consulting firm.  During his tenure, Rob was a member of the management committee of the Orange County, CA office and held senior leadership positions with responsibility for human resource consulting to clients in the Orange County and San Diego markets.  In addition, he was the Managing Principal for the southern California practice responsible for business development and integration of all Mercer's services with each client's business needs.  These roles required him to lead diverse teams of senior consultants and client executives and facilitate the process of these teams working together to solve a wide array of business problems. 

In 1995 Rob established Mercer's first Leadership and Strategy practice and served as the Managing Principal of this practice for the western United States.  In the 15 years that Rob worked at Mercer he helped the western U.S. operations grow from less than $50 million in annual revenue to over $300 million.

Rob has worked personally with clients in many industries including healthcare, technology, professional services, financial services, hospitality, diversified foods, consumer electronics and automotive.  The defining characteristics of Rob’s client relationships are diversity, results, and longevity.
 
The diversity of Rob's work is evidenced in the wide array of projects he has collaborated on with clients.  Examples include:

• Helping a healthcare institution identify problems in an organization-wide information systems integration process.  This included identifying the interdependencies between the information systems and critical business processes and re-organizing the integration teams into a collaboration between systems experts and operating staff. 

• Working with the senior executive team of a consumer electronics company to develop a set of leadership processes unique to that organization and implement them through a teaching and measurement process into the day-to-day operations of their business.

• Collaborating with the senior executive team of a professional services company to design a strategy to develop an e-business concept as an addition to its traditional business model.

• Facilitating the merger of four hospitals and six medical groups to form the dominant Integrated Delivery System in the market. This project included restructuring the management team and establishing new processes for business planning across the organization.

 

Rob's work with clients has consistently yielded excellent results:

• A post-merger organization was able to fix a broken revenue cycle process, thus improving net revenue by over $20 million in less than three months.

• A formerly high-growth organization whose sales had been flat for two years was able to grow at nearly twice the industry average the year after working with Rob to develop a new business strategy.

• A diversified conglomerate with a history of in-fighting at the senior executive level and a lack of leadership credibility with its employees established new leadership processes and is now considered the best example of effective leadership in its market.

 

Rob's client relationships are longstanding partnerships.  The average length of the relationship with his current clients is in excess of five years with one relationship in excess of 10 years.

Rob received his degree in English Literature from California State University at Fullerton in 1980.  He has been a judge at the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business International Strategy Competition.  He has extensive training in business strategy, people strategy, mergers and acquisitions, organizational change and leadership development.

Mercedes McBride-Walker, Academic Correspondent

Mercedes McBride-Walker helps leaders apply the best thinking on key people issues to make wise workplace decisions; she has a passion for translating research into action.  As an educator with a strong track record of practical research and an award-winning public speaker, Mercedes helps increase organizational effectiveness and personal efficacy through inquiry, analysis, and customized learning. With over two decades of experience, Mercedes has developed subject matter expertise in leadership development, organization development, human resources, compensation, and performance management.

Mercedes is currently in the Ph.D. program in the Organizational Behavior Department of Case Western Reserve .  She holds a Master of Science in Organization Development from Pepperdine University; her undergraduate degree is in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior from the University of Washington.
